I def read The Trial and really liked it (in a morbid, Kafka kind of way). Maybe try that one instead?

I read a couple of your book recommendations this year. A Wrinkle In Time, which i wish i'd read as a kid as I would have loved it. I liked it as an adult but I would have loved it as a kid. And Exodus which I loved until I didn't. It struck me as pretty downright racist in places, but it was definitely a product of its time! I should probably read Oscar Wao now.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576247921509925121.post-5251832331975051542014-12-29T09:35:35.227-08:002014-12-29T09:35:35.227-08:00Your summary of The Brief, Wondrous Life of Oscar ...Your summary of The Brief, Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao is exactly why I haven't read it yet, even though I think I'd love it. Maybe some time when I'm feeling ridiculously happy and need to bring it down a notch. I also never read To Kill a Mockingbird in school. Such literature failings!Jenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10413371644902006675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576247921509925121.post-79913133089196866972014-12-29T03:05:51.221-08:002014-12-29T03:05:51.221-08:00Oh dear, the Junot Diaz recommendation might have ...Oh dear, the Junot Diaz recommendation might have been me. You're welcome...I think. :P I feel like I've really got to read more classics in the original version, not the abridged/ translated form. As a kid I used to read a lot of kids' versions of things like Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, Treasure Island, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea etc, so I know the story and always worry the language and subplots and digressions will be a slog. But no - I'm finding things like Wilkie Collins (The Moonstone, The Frozen Deep etc) totally worth it, so why not these?
Gracehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08281336239355942919noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8576247921509925121.post-35220317744391760002014-12-29T01:04:55.090-08:002014-12-29T01:04:55.090-08:00Oh I love this idea! I read a ton but I haven't really made any reading goals before (definite perk of working in a library: just wander around until I find something that seems interesting). I might just steal this for 2015.Heather [is probably running]https://www.blogger.com/profile/12114192701460406051noreply@blogger.com
